In the details: How our Italian Greyhound clothing stands the test of time
At The Hound Edit, we make Italian Greyhound clothing that embodies the timeless style and grace of the breed. Thoughtful, tailored designs that focus on comfort, longevity, as well as making life a bit easier when it comes to dressing your hound. Each piece is handcrafted in the UK, using high-quality materials that have been extensively researched and tested so you can be sure your new jumper or coat will last for many seasons and support your Iggy's every movement and environment, whether they're zooming in the rain or snuggled up in bed. Quality you can feel and see
We source only the softest, most durable materials to make sure our clothes are as comfortable as they are long-lasting. The Steve and The Jean-Pierre jumpers are made with organic cotton, woven at a boutique knitting mill in the UK, and our pre-launch testing group picked up on the unique quality of it incredibly quickly. So, here's why it had to be 'the one' and why going organic over traditional cotton is so fitting for our little ones:
- Naturally hypoallergenic > no added nasties that can contribute to skin irritation (this was a big one for us from Twiggy's past experiences in jumpers)
- More breathable > keeping them cool in the summer and cosy in the winter
- More durable > longer life in our Iggys' wardrobes, saving £ for you in the long run
- Cleaner waters and better for biodiversity > happier tummies, soil, and wildlife around the world
- No genetic modification or exposure to toxic chemicals > better for our farmers' livelihoods, mental and physical health
The Steve and The Jean-Pierre have some hidden stretch underneath the belly, making it easier to pop them on and off when needed. You'll also find a beautiful trim lining the edges of the garments to complement their sleek, tailored fit.
For those drizzly and windy outings, The Rae comes to the rescue which has felt like an invisible, magical cloak for our Twiggy who now confidently zoomies out in the rain:
- Shower and windproof > repels wind and light rain keeping them dry
- Fleece-lined > provides essential warmth and softness for our thin-haired small ones
- Breathable > warm yet breathable so no overheating
- Lightweight > light and not bulky as not to restrict their movement
- Quick-drying and easy to wash > maintains shape after washing time and time again, and dries quickly after a wet walk
For The Rae, we've added secure poppers to the back leg and chest pieces for ease popping your Iggy's coat on and off. They're sneakily concealed so you and your little one won't even know they're there. The beautiful softshell fabric we use is also Oeko-Tex certified, meaning it's been safety tested against over 1000 harmful substances. Pretty cool, hey!
Thoughtful details
We’ve also added practical touches to each garment, such as a hidden cotton coat hook sewn inside so your Iggy's outerwear can be hung up to dry quickly and next to yours by the front door ready for your next adventure. We know that walks, especially in the UK, can get a bit messy so rest assured that every piece is machine washable.
Handmade in the UK
Each piece is handmade in Devon, UK, by our lovely and extremely talented seamstress, Kim, who I've been working with over the past couple of years on the development of the collection. We're also looking to start working with another seamstress in Hackney, London. Keeping it local means we can support other businesswomen in the UK, and it also allows us to stay close to each piece from start to finish. Every garment is personally sent to you by me once it's been carefully inspected.
Eco-conscious finishing touches
Brand labels woven with recycled materials
Our brand labels, which you'll find sewn on the exterior of each garment, are crafted from recycled polyester at a solar-powered, family-run mill in Wales. They are incredibly dedicated to lowering their carbon footprint which we love. Similar, to softshell fabric we use for The Rae, the yarn in our brand labels are also Oexo-Tex certified.
100% recyclable packaging
From our hand-written notes to our mailing bags, our packaging is made from 100% recyclable materials meaning when you receive your new wardrobe, you can simply pop your packaging in the recycling bin once you're finished with it.
We’re on a mission to create thoughtful, timeless clothing for Italian Greyhounds that enhance their lives. We're also conscious of our impact as a business and we can make choices that positively impact on our supply chain and planet, from the better quality of life for farmers who grow the cotton that we use for The Steve and The Jean-Pierre because we chose organic, to the family-run solar-powered mill in Pembrokeshire who make our brand labels.
